Play it safe this spring, from Dr. Clark Andersen

In February, Dr. Andersen and our staff blogged about the advantage of wearing a mouth guard when playing sports and we thought a reminder today wouldn’t hurt. You see, April happens to be National Facial Protection Month, and it’s a good time to remind our young athletes about staying safe on the field this spring. According to the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation, children, high-school athletes and adults will have more than 5,000,000 teeth knocked out in sporting events this year. By simply wearing a properly fitted mouth guard, these accidents could prevent this along with other traumatic facial injuries.

The above video from our friends at the American Association of Orthodontists outlines five ways you can protect yourself this spring. If you have any further questions about any of these tips, please contact our team. And remember to stay safe and have fun this April!

Soft tissue laser surgery at W. Clark Andersen DDS

At the orthodontic office of W. Clark Andersen, we use soft tissue lasers routinely in our office for several uses. The funnest reason is to enhance esthetics post treatment when a patient has hyperplastic gum tissue. There are also a lot of reasons to use a soft tissue laser surgery during treatment, most commonly we use it to expose an unerupted tooth which saves the patient months of treatment time.

Dr. Andersen has done hundreds of these procedures in the office. No injections are needed, the proceedure is painless and there is very little if any post-op pain associated. We have the smallest and most high-tech laser used for dental applications available. It is cordless utilizing blue tooth technology and about the size of a magic marker!

Dr. Clark Andersen, Utah's certified Insignia™ provider

You may remember our video from last week, showing the outcomes of Insignia treatment. Today, Dr. Andersen and team thought we'd talk a little more about our new treatment. After watching the video, you're probably asking yourself: What does it mean to me? Well, for one, shorter treatment time. While it takes - on average - two years to complete traditional orthodontic treatment, the treatment time for Insignia is much shorter. Through the use of Insignia’s sophisticated 3-D imaging, treatment planning, and customized braces with customized precision archwires, Dr. Andersen can reduce treatment time compared to that of regular braces.

In addition to shortening treatment times, the greater efficiency of the Insignia system also helps reduce the number of adjustments and wire changes your mouth will need, and that means fewer trips to our office. The Insignia system’s 3-D software lets Dr. Andersen analyze how to effectively and efficiently align your teeth. With Insignia, personalized archwires are designed to move your teeth into proper alignment, reducing the number of maintenance visits.

If you have any questions about orthodontic treatment with Insignia braces, please feel free to give us a call! Dr. Andersen is one of a select number of orthodontists certified to practice with Insignia’s cutting-edge technology.

We've told you about the different treatments Dr. W. Clark Andersen provides, and today, we thought we'd talk about our favorite new treatment, technology-driven "Insignia." The treatment is similar to SureSmile, and uses CAD technology to produce customized braces for each individual patient. The video above should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect with this treatment.

If you're wondering whether you're a candidate for Insignia treatment at our office, please give us a call at either our Brigham City or Garland offices.
